Missouri suspends safety Jasper Simmons
The Missouri Tigers have suspended safety Jasper Simmons indefinitely for an unspecified incident.
Earlier this week Missouri announced that Simmons was suspended from the club for an indefinite amount of time, but refused to disclose the reason.
Simmons has only participated in one game so far this season. The youngster played in the club’s opening game of the season against Illinois, but suffered a knee injury and has been unable to return for the past three weeks.
The university made it clear that Simmons was not suspended because of legal troubles. The Tigers have struggled this season with players encountering legal difficulties. The club kicked captain Derrick Washington off the team after he was charged with a felony
s*x assault and domestic violence. In addition, two members of the team were forced out of two games after they were charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
The school has even had difficulty keeping their coaching staff in line, as assistant coach Bruce Walker was subject to team sanctions after he was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
However, despite the Tigers struggles off the field they have managed to perform on the field. The club currently sits at 4-0 after earning victories over Illinois, McNeese State, San Diego State and a win last week over Miami (OH).
The string of wins has even earned the Tigers votes for the Top 25, something that may be attainable if they defeat Colorado in week six.
The suspension of Simmons should not greatly affect their defence as the club is currently ranked 14th in the nation, only allowing an average of 14 points-per-game. Moreover, the club’s offence has been stellar, scoring over at least 50 points in two games
this season.
Missouri has played their way to second in the Big 12 North and will play their first conference game against Colorado on 9 October.
