Missy Franklin captures Women’s 200 yards backstroke gold – AT&T Winter National Championships
Missy Franklin of STARCO captured gold medal of the Women’s 200 yards backstroke on third day of the 2012 AT&T Winter National Championships in Austin, TX, USA on Saturday, December 1.
Franklin enjoyed a comfortable lead over her challengers and proved her mettle for the crown. With her epic start, she faced no trouble from her challengers and surfaced on the finishing end for the title.
Franklin enjoyed a lead of more than two body lengths over her closest competitor and reached the wall for gold medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 49.18 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Bonnie Brandon of ZONAAZ, who stayed 2.31 seconds slower from her and occupied silver medal of the race by producing a time of 1 minute and 51.49 seconds.
Brandon was followed by Kylie Stewart of DYNAGA, who was more than a body length slower from her foregoing finisher and reached the wall for third position by posting a time of 1 minute and 52.77 seconds.
Stewart remained 1.20 seconds ahead of Brooklyn Snodgrass of IU-IN, who failed to make her spot on the podium and finished fourth in the race by posting a time of 1 minute and 53.97 seconds.
Snodgrass was followed by Janet Hu of NCAPPV, who stayed 0.85 seconds slower from her former finisher and proved her eligibility for fifth place by producing a time of 1 minute and 54.82 seconds.
Sixth spot of the event was secured by Kendyl Stewart of USC-CA, who was 0.38 seconds behind and completed her race in sixth place by posting a time of 1 minute and 55.20 seconds.
Stewart was followed by Cynthia Pammett of IU-IN, who was 0.29 seconds away from her and made her way to the finishing wall for seventh place by posting a time of 1 minute and 55.49 seconds.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Henriette Stenkvist of USC-CA, who 1.33 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 56.82 seconds.
In addition, Franklin was overjoyed with her form and collected medal at the prize ceremony of the event.
