Missy Franklin captures Women’s 200m backstroke gold – 2013 Arena Grand Prix
Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars-C captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on day two of the 2013 Arena Grand Prix in Colorado, USA, on Friday, February 15.
The 17-year-old Franklin showed no mercy to her opponents in the distant backstroke discipline and paved her way to the finishing end for gold medal. With her unrelenting efforts, she gained a prominent lead over her competitors and touched the wall for
the title.
Franklin remained in a prominent lead over her toughest challenger and surfaced on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 07.31 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Hilary Caldwell of PSW, who stayed almost five seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and ended second in the race by producing a time of 2 minutes and 12.13 seconds.
Third spot of the race was obtained by Miyuki Takemura of Una Gwsc-CA, who was one and a half body length slower from her former finisher and stepped on the podium for bronze medal by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 13.74 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Lauren Lavigna of UBCD, who stayed only 0.03 seconds slower from Takemura and settled on the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.77 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Barbara Jardin of PPO, who was only 0.02 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 13.79 seconds.
Jardin was traced by Ally Howe of Palo Alto Stanford, who was nearly two seconds behind and finished sixth in the event by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 15.42 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Quinn Carrozza of Longhorn Aquatic, who was 0.53 seconds slower by posting 2 minutes and 15.95 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Isabella Arcila of Southern Methodist, who was 0.17 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked 2 minutes and 16.12 seconds.
In addition, the winners received medals and accolades after the session.
