Missy Franklin occupies Women’s 200m freestyle gold – Swimming news
Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars-C occupied gold medal of Women’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2013 Arena International Grand Prix at the George F. Haines International Swim Center on Saturday, June 1.
The 18-year-old Franklin demonstrated her notable efforts in the 200m discipline and proved her mettle for the title. She faced gruelling efforts of her toughest challenger, Allison Schmitt of North Baltimore in the first half
of the race but managed to secure the title with her notable forms.
She stifled hopes of her opponents in the four-lap discipline, as she transpired on the finishing end for first position with the timing of 1 minute and 58.26 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Schmitt, who was just 0.03 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal with the timing of 1 minute and 58.29 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Elizabeth Pelton of California Aquatics, who stayed 0.23 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.52 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team, who was full body length slower from upsetting her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 59.41 seconds.
The 18-year-old Chenault was chased by Brittany Elmslie of Australia, who stayed 0.45 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 59.86 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Maya Dirado of Una Stan-PC, who suffered a loss of 0.44 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.30 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was obtained by Shannon Vreeland of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who stayed 0.80 seconds slower from her former finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.50 seconds.
Vreeland was traced by Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who stayed 1.27 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 02.77 seconds for eighth position.
Ninth spot of the race was obtained by Sarah Denninghoff of Una Txla-ST, who was only an inch slower and posted 2 minutes and 03.09 seconds.
In addition, Franklin expressed happiness over her victory and received medal after the race.
