Missy Franklin secures Women’s 200m backstroke gold – Swimming News
Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars-C secured gold medal of Women’s 200m backstroke on day two of the 2013 Arena International Grand Prix at the George F. Haines International Swim Center on Saturday, June 1.
The 18-year-old Franklin devastated hopes of her opponents in the 200m discipline, as she enjoyed a prominent lead over the finishing end for the title. With her commendable form, she enjoyed a comfortable lead over her supporters
and surfaced on the finishing end for the first position.
Franklin faced no competition from her opponents throughout the race as she cruised her way to register the timing of 2 minutes and 08.24 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Kendyl Stewart of NCA-SI, who failed to secure her fastest qualification spot in the playoff and finished second. Stewart stayed 2.48 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the
wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 10.72 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Hilary Caldwell of Island Swimming, who was 1.20 seconds apart and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.92 seconds for bronze medal.
Similarly, Caldwell was chased by Bonnie Brandon of Tucson Ford Deal, who was 0.98 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing wall for fourth position by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 12.90
seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the discipline was obtained by Emily Seebohm of Australia, who was 1.87 seconds apart and concluded her race in a time of 2 minutes and 14.77 seconds.
Seebohm was followed by Felicia Lee of Una Stan-PC, who was only 0.11 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and surfaced on the finishing end by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 14.88 seconds for sixth place.
Seventh position of the event was secured by Kylie Stewart of Dynamo Swim Club, who was considerably slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 16.15 seconds.
Eighth spot of the race was obtained by Elizabeth Beisel of Blue Fish-NE, who was 0.64 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 16.79 seconds.
In addition, Franklin received a huge round of applause from the audience while the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize distribution ceremony of the tournament after the session.
