Missy Franklin seizes Women’s 200m freestyle gold – Swimming news
Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars-C seized gold medal in the Women’s 200m freestyle on second day of the 2013 Phillips 66 National Championships & World Champ. Trials in Indianapolis on Wednesday, June 26.
The 18-year-old Franklin devastated hopes of her opponents in the 200m discipline as she sprinted her way towards the wall for gold medal.
With her impeccable efforts, Franklin remained prominently ahead of her opponents as she emerged on the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 1 minute and 55.56 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Katie Ledecky of Nation’s Capital, who was 2.08 seconds slower and tapped the wall for silver medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 57.63 seconds.
Shannon Vreeland of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who stayed only 0.50 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing wall for third place by producing an effort of 1 minute and 58.13 seconds, chased the second best finisher.
The third position holder was chased by Jordan Mattern of Athens Bulldog Swim Club, who was 0.14 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 58.27 seconds.
Maya Dirado of Stanford Swimming, who was 0.14 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 58.41 seconds, obtained fifth fastest spot of the race.
Sixth spot of the discipline was obtained by Chelsea Chenault of Terrapins Swim Team, who was 0.33 seconds away from her foregoing finisher by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 58.74 seconds.
Similarly, Karlee Bispo of Longhorn Aquatics, who was 0.36 seconds apart and clocked a time of 1 minute and 59.10 seconds, chased Chenault.
Eighth position of the 200m discipline was secured by Quinn Carrozza of Longhorn Aquatics, who stayed 1.05 seconds slower and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.15 seconds.
Furthermore, Franklin expressed happiness over her victory in the 200m race while the position holders collected medals and accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the event.
