Missy Franklin wins Women’s 100m freestyle gold – 2013 Austin Grand Prix
Missy Franklin of Colorado Stars-C won gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on concluding day of the 2013 ST TXLA Austin Grand prix at Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, on Friday, January 18.
The 17-year-old Franklin lived up to the expectations of her supporters by dominating the playoff of the discipline. With her notable pace, Franklin enjoyed a comfortable lead over her toughest challenger and hit the wall for gold medal.
Her commendable pace remained almost a second ahead of her following swimmer as she tapped the wall with a wonderful timing of 54.68 seconds for the title.
The champion was followed by Simone Manuel of First Colony Swim Club, who stayed full body length behind and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking an effort of 55.52 seconds.
The second position holder was traced by Nathalie Lindborg of Southern Methodist, who stayed almost half a body length behind and emerged on the finishing end for bronze medal with an effort of 56.16 seconds.
Lindborg was traced by her teammate, Isabella Arcila, who was 0.32 seconds slower from securing her spot on the victory stand and finished her race in fourth place by producing an effort of 56.48 seconds.
Similarly, Arcila remained only an inch ahead of her following swimmer, Amanda Weir of SwimAtlanta-GA, who secured fifth position of the race by producing an effort of 56.49 seconds.
Sixth spot of the event was obtained by Nina Rangelova of Southern Methodist, who stayed 0.10 seconds slower and ended her race in a time of 56.59 seconds.
Rangelova was followed by Victoria Poon of PPO, who stayed only 0.06 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 56.65 seconds for seventh position.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Heather MacLean of UBCD, who was one and a half body length behind and touched the wall with the timing of 58.02 seconds.
In addition, the arena appreciated gruelling efforts of all participants in their respective events while Franklin received massive admiration from the audience for her notable efforts at the victory ceremony of the race.
