Missy Franklin’s tally increased to seven victories
The talented swimmer concluded the 3-day event by winning three more races on Sunday in USA Swimming’s Minneapolis Grand Prix. She had previously bagged four gold medals in races of the same event and thus now she is the winner of seven meets.
Missy Franklin is a 15-year-old swimmer from Aurora Colo., and managed to impress the audience on Sunday by giving her career best performance in the 200 metre individual medley. She finished the race in a time of 1 minute and 57.16 seconds. Moreover, the
champion swimmer went on to win the 200 metre backstroke in a time of 1 minute and 53.17 seconds and then the 100 metre freestyle in a time of 48.50 seconds.
In a post race interview, Missy Franklin was reported as saying, “Being able to come in here and post some best times is completely unexpected.”
The young swimmer also told the correspondents that she had not practised before contending the meet as she added, “It definitely got me way more excited because being able to go these times in November is, kind of, giving me more motivation to see what
I can do in the next few months.”
On the basis of her remarkable performance, Missy was also named the top female swimmer of the event.
Ryan Lochte, the most celebrated swimmer of the season managed to win two events on Sunday evening. He held off Todd Patrick in the 200 metre individual medley meet and finished the race in a time of 1 minute and 45.35 seconds. Ryan then easily won the 200
metre backstroke in a time of 1 minute and 40.44 seconds. Lochte, who has participated in Olympics two times, then bagged the gold medal in the 100 metre backstroke event on Saturday. He was thus nominated as the top male swimmer of the championship.
The champion swimmer said while talking to the correspondents, “This is the best physical standpoint I have been in, in the past three or four years.”
Ryan Lochte added, “The first day was a little rough. I have not raced for a little bit after a couple months. I think I was just getting into the race mode.”
Ryan Lochte proved himself to be the best swimmer of the year after giving a series of splendid performances and wins in the National and International swimming events that took place this year. He is also the winner of six Olympics medals and thus, it was
something unusual that he participated in an event like the Grand Prix.
As he said, “After last year, I took seven months off afterwards.” He further said, “As soon as I got back in, I told myself I cannot do that again. So, I just told myself after (the Pan Pacific Championships) this past summer, I was only going to take a
week and I was going to get right back into it.”
In preparation for the national and world championships scheduled for December, the Minneapolis Grand Prix was the first important short course event of the season.
On the other hand, Chloe Sutton was the winner of the women’s 1650 metres freestyle event that took place after a minute’s silence was observed for the deceased swimmer Fran Crippen. Crippen was an open water swimmer who died while he was contending an open
water race in the United Arab Emirates last month.
Meanwhile, the men’s 1650 metres freestyle event was won by Oussama Mellouli in a time period of 14 minutes and 27.33 seconds. This was the fifth fastest time for this event.
This particular meet initiated the seven event series for which the top swimmer will be awarded a cash price of $ 20,000 at the final event that will take place in June in Santa Clara, California.
