Misty May and Kerri Walsh. How good are they? Are they really the best?

Question

I know that they are the best in the sand, but here is what I want to know...

Are the sand players the better or worse than the indoor players? There is a smaller number of people for them to compete against in the sand than there is for indoors. So it makes me think indoors would be better.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are really really good, and I am proud to have an American team be the best. However, when we are talking about who the best players in the world are and their names come up, I'm not sure what to think.

Did the two of them dominate when they played indoors, or just now that they play sand? Did either play for the U.S. team?

I guess I am bias because I'm a pure indoor player, but I want to know what all of you think. Do they deserve to be compared with the best indoor international players?

They are the best ever.  I don't see anyone that could possibly beat them on a regular basis.  I saw them play live twice so far in NJ and they completely dominated.  

They are also two of the nicest people you could ever meet.

I think that sand volleyball players ought to be better. Have you ever ran in sand??? It is much more challenging and slows you done a lot. And for two people to occupy a whole court is amazing. You cannot sit there and tell me that indoor players are better??? Theres six players that are responsible for the same room as two players on sand. I can run a mile on a court in 7 minutes. I can’t even run a half mile on dry sand. It also takes away from your vertical jump. You have to have an abnormal vertical (like misty and karri) to be able to get up in the air and pound it down like they do. Your crazy for thinking that indoor players could compete against sand volleyball players. To play in sand you have to be more strong, have more agility, and quick. Could you imagine if you had to take over the whole back row???? Yea, well that’s the way they play. 1 person has the job of 3 people… I would rethink your thoughts

Funny question because it's almost 2 different sports. In reality, they are they best sand volleyball players, probably ever. Now the truth is, as good as indoor volleyball is, you have to be that much better on sand. Kerri makes hitting a ten footer look easy to what a normal college indoor hitter might never achieve in a lifetime on sand. Just a little background history on the 2, Kerri Walsh was MVP during her senior year I believe in college, therefore technically she was the best, and Misty may who also played indoor in college was graced on the cover of Volleyball magazine more times than any other female since like 1990 maybe even before then. They were the best on indoor court, where so many can really be called the best, but only the two of them are truly the best on sand, so technically they win on a default that they were great during both careers because I've seen college volleyball players, and I'm talking good volleyball players, really good even, come in and try out sand and suck at it for years till they start dominating. Like I said, it's almost 2 different sports, literally.

No they are not as good as the top indoor players. In fact, they're not that great at beach volleyball...... its just that the people they play are worse. About six years ago, a buddy and me beat Misty and some other girl in a game at Huntington Beach, CA. Granted, I'm a guy and my friends a guy...... but she wanted to play us, and it wasn't even close. Its just funny to think that I've beaten a Gold metal athlete at her sport, and I only played at a junior college.
