Beach volleyball is a sport that requires more individual participation as compared to indoor volleyball. This is because there are a total of six players on a team in indoor volleyball while two players make up a team in beach volleyball. Therefore, the
onus of a win or loss rests more heavily in players playing beach volleyball.
The rules of the two games are same with some variations but the skills that are required in beach volleyball are more comprehensive and complicated. Therefore, beach volleyball players require more practice and training in order to excel at the sport. The
game is not only about physical strength and agility, it is also about mental toughness.
There are several players that shine brighter in the world of beach volleyball both in the male and the female categories. However, some names are the first to come to mind when beach volleyball is talked about. In the female beach volleyball category, the
name of Misty May-Treanor is the first to come to mind who is considered to be the top ranked women’s beach volleyball player in the world.
Misty May plays beach volleyball for the United States of America both in national as well as international competitions. She has a series of records and accomplishments in her bag which includes being a two time gold medallist. Misty May plays beach volleyball
in the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) tournaments as well as the International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB) tournaments. Over the course of her illustrious career, Misty May has been able to gather a total of 110 championship titles in both
the international as well as national events.
Misty May-Treanor talks about her experience in playing beach volleyball in the following manner, “It takes a lot of hard work and dedication just like any pro sport. Especially for beach volleyball you don’t have to be tall or as fast as other sports. You

Misty May has teamed up with another famous player, Kerri Walsh, and together they form a formidable combination on the sand courts. The team of Misty May and Kerri Walsh is considered the number one ranked beach volleyball team in the world. Other than
that, Misty May has been able to bag a total of 31 professional beach volleyball titles. One of the most impressive world records that Misty May holds is to have won 15 volleyball tournaments one after the other. She also holds another world record of having
a winning streak of 90 matches. This feat was accomplished in the 2003-2004 volleyball season when her partner was Kerri Walsh.
Misty May was born on July 30, 1977 in Los Angeles, California. She started playing beach volleyball from an early age. During her school years, Misty May was also involved in soccer as well as tennis and she also participated in dance. During her college
life, Misty May represented the Long Beach State 49ers for a period of four years. In the year 1998, the 49ers participated in the Division I NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship which they eventually won. Misty May got individual recognition when she received
the title of the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player.
Misty May still plays beach volleyball and is respected by both team mates as well as the players of the opposing team for her strength, skills and ability.
