Misty for Me could be in Midday’s way yet again, denying her to win the Nassau Stakes three times in a row
The Sir Henry Cecil trained 5-year-old brown mare, Midday will look to land the Group 1 Nassau Stakes British Champions’ Series for the third time in a row at Glorious Goodwood on 30 July, 2011.
The 1mile, 1 furlong and 192 yards event have reeled in an extremely strong line up which will make the job for Sir Henry Cecil all the more difficult to place in the group 1 stakes race for the third time.
Among the thirteen potential runners is the Pretty Polly Stakes conqueror Misty for Me. The Aidan O’Brien trained daughter of Galileo will look to keep his awesome form running in the Nassau Stakes come 31st July.
The 3-year-old filly has shown class and talent at the Curragh in the Pretty Polly Stakes on 25 June, 2011, when under jockey Seamie Heffernan, Misty for Me took on a field of seven fillies and mares.
Sweeping the stakes race defeating the Nassau Stakes highly favoured Midday by an unbelievable six lengths.
Seamie Heffernan had had the privilege to ride the Aidan O’Brien filly at the Curragh who provided a splendid ride for her ride.
The pair set a steady pace in the beginning until shifting into a higher gear, entering the straight.
Kept on well, asserted command with 2 furlongs out, towing the rest of the field but too fast to be caught by anyone.
Misty for Me has had 5 wins out of 9 starts, with over all 6 finishes on the card out of 9. Life time earnings shot up to £574,509 after her crushing performance at the Curragh
Prior to the Pretty Polly Stakes, Misty for Me prominently won the Group 1 Irish 1,000 Guineas under the same jockey Seamie Heffernan.
Despite winning the Nassau Stakes 2010 and 2009 edition, Midday’s current form is slightly off; her two previous starts had been frustrating for her and her connections.
Lost to Misty for Me in the Pretty Polly by a massive margin was her last outing. Prior to the Midday lost to St Nicholas Abbey by a mere length in the Group 1 Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom on 3 June 2011.
The older five year old daughter of Oasis, Midday is 8 wins out of 19 starts, six times finishing 2nd and 3 times third. Midday also has a whopping bankroll of £1,913,913.
Stable mate Principal Role will be accompanying Midday in the Nassau Stakes, giving Sir Henry Cecil two bites at the cherry.
Another contender who made her seasonal return in the Group 1 Coral Eclipse, where she finished fourth, is all geared up to return to Glorious Goodwood and attempt to win her second serious start of the 2011 season.
