Mitch Docker disappointed after the January 19th crash
Mitch Docker of Team GreenEdge was keen to start the 2012 season at the classics but the cyclist injured himself during the team’s training camp, which shattered his hopes for the season.
The cyclist misjudged a corner and lost control over his bike which left the cyclist with several head injuries.
He was immediately treated by team’s doctor Peter Barnes, who briefed that Mitch faced minor fractures on his cheekbone and hand.
He is currently going through the recovery process and is keen to ride the much awaited classics to pursue his goals for the season.
Docker briefed, "I had lofty goals for this part of my season, and it took me a little while to get over the idea of missing these races".
He posted on his team’s website, "I had been really looking forward to doing them with GreenEdge. Enough time has passed now, and I've accepted this".
Doctors have recommended him to stay away from the television and the computer to ensure the full attention to his sleep.
Mitch explained that the time off from cycling will give him some extra room to deal with his personal life.
He briefed, “. There's no direct treatment required. I just need to let the body recovery [sic] on its own – and I can't push it. I'll do damage if I try to come back into things too quickly".
The 26-year-old is hopeful to make a strong come back in the second half of the season. He explained that the crash will give him enough time to strengthen himself for the season ahead.
Docker is expected to return at the Vuelta a Espana 2012 and he is hopeful to make the most out of the remaining season.
Team GreenEdge is riding its first year at the top level of cycling and Simon Gerrans helped the side with a terrific start at the UCI inaugural event.
Gerrans secured an overall victory at the race along with the Australian Road Championships.
The side is currently riding the ongoing Tour of Oman and the team finished at the 13th overall position after the first stage.
