After Kevin Durant, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, Los Angeles Lakers GM joins the list of people who believe the team to be only good on paper without having proved anything.....
With their acquisitions during the summer, the Los Angeles Lakers now boast off one of the strongest line ups in the NBA.
However, despite having players like Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol and Metta World-Peace as the starters, they still have a lot to prove. The likes of Kevin Durant, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade made the fact very
obvious in the last few weeks and the man responsible for putting together team, Mitch Kupchak also believes the same.
“On paper, we’ve made what we think are improvements. I think we’re going to be in the hunt. I don’t know if we’ll lead the pack or be second in the pack or be fourth in the pack or fifth, but I think that we’ll be in the hunt
and we’re better than we were a year ago. Is it time to celebrate? Absolutely not. You’re going to have to wait a year and see how it all plays out.”
Having so many star players in a single team is pleasing, but it does not always assure an instant title, Miami Heat being the classic example of the fact. The stars have to let go their egos and work on team chemistry if they
are to be successful togther. Miami took one season to do that, but the Lakers would be hoping the results are quicker. There is no doubt that the current Lakers roster is more talented than Miami’s big three or the 2008 winning title team of the Boston Celtics
and they certainly stand a great chance of having the same or even more success than those teams.
But there are always two sides to a coin and as much success is promised, there is also a chance of failure. We have seen the big three of LeBron James, Bosh and Wade fail on their first attempt and even the Lakers were unsuccessful
against Detroit Pistons despite having Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Gary Payton and Karl Malone on their roster.
Kupchak knows all about that, and his cautious approach to Lakers' chances is hence understandable.
