Mitch Moreland’s double RBIs help Texas Rangers defeat Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers’ right-fielder, Mitch Moreland had a remarkable day with the bat as he went 1-for-3 with an average of .274 and hit two RBIs in the Rangers’ 3-0 victory against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, Toronto on July 30.
During the first inning, Ian Kinsler flied out to left-field, Omar Quintanilla struck-out swinging and Michael Young grounded out to third base. Similarly, the Blue Jays’ batters also struggled as Jose Bautista reached towards first base on an infield single
but Yunel Escobar grounded out to second base, Colby Rasmus popped out to short-stop and Adam Lind grounded out to short-stop position at the end of the first inning.
Rangers scored two runs during the second inning to get a 2-0 lead when Moreland struck a two-run homer (426 feet) to centre-field and Mike Napoli posted a single run. It was considered as the 13th homer for Moreland in the current season. The
batters got out without scoring any run from third to seventh inning of the game as the pitchers threw in the right areas.
Napoli said, “His stuff was great today. When he started throwing in the bullpen I knew he had some good stuff and he brought it into the game. He had a good fastball and he mixed in some off-speed when he had to.”
Speaking to reporters, Moreland said, “You could tell from the get-go that Holland was on his game.”
In the fifth inning, Ian Kinsler drove a single-run shot towards left-field while Endy Chavez flied out to left-field, Young struck-out swinging and Quintanilla grounded out to second base. Derek Holland pitched beautifully for the Rangers as he threw nine
score-less innings and surrendered only four hits with five strike-outs. He permitted just only one walk on his 95 pitches.
The Blue Jays’ batters missed some scoring opportunities during the seventh inning when Edwin Encarnacion popped out to second base, Eric Thames fouled out to catcher and Rajai Davis grounded out to shorts-stop position. On the other side, the Rangers continued
to raise their lead as Napoli hit a solo homer (415 feet) towards centre-field to give his team a 3-0 lead, at the top of the eighth inning.
With this outstanding effort from the Rangers, they were able to level the three-game series 1-1.
