Question:

Mitchell's Mausers 8mm Hollow Point?

I was thinking about using their 8mm, 175 grain hollow point boat tail for deer this year, because the only store that I saw the 175 grain soft points in, someone bought. I think this setup might work just as good.

  1. I wouldn't use a hollow point.

  2. I wouldn't buy their ammunition, but you seem set on it for some reason. I'd buy ammunition from a reliable maker as I have never heard of Mitchell's Mauser ammunition.

  3. Hollow point boatails are typically match bullets and do not expand sufficiently for hunting.  Use a 150-180 grain soft point or a ballistic tip that is designed for deer hunting.  Unless you are certain to be taking shots at ranges longer than 150 yards the standard 170 grain factory fodder will do.  I hunt with a slightly hotter handload using the  170 grain Hornady bullet the shoots to the same point of impact as the Hotter European factory 196 grain which I'd  use for heavier game.

  4. Nothing wrong with hollow point but i wouldn't buy from Mitchell's mausers simply on principle. They have very deceitful advertising practices, selling people Yugo M48s at jacked up prices  when they think they're getting a German k98

Midwayusa has a good selection of 8mm hunting rounds.

  5. Hollow point will work fine. Blast away.

  6. Check out the S&B 196 soft point hunting fodder.  It puts them down and takes a bow.  No muss, no fuss.
