Question:

Mitchell's Mausers Ammo?

For this upcoming hunting season, I am going to use Mitchell's Mausers 8mm 175 grain Pointed Soft Point bullet. I wanted to know if these are loaded to the full potential of the 8mm, sort of like European loads. And just for kicks, who has experience with deer and the 8mm Mauser.

  1. I read somewhere a while back, that Mitchells sells Sellier and Bellot ammo.  I have shot lots of it in my m48 Yugo.  The 8mm is a fine caliber for deer out to 300 yards.

  2. I have killed ten to fifteen deer with a 8mm Mauser each at different ranges most of them I have dropped in their tracks any lead tip hunting round will work 175-200 grain do not use solid copper jackets this is an excellent long distance and heavy brush gun its also good for black bear hunting.

  3. I am not sure if Mitchell's loade ammo or imports it under their name.

As for deer hunting with the 8x57 I took my first deer with one, (one shot at 70 yards) So I am partial to it.  If we are talking whitetails even the anemic  American ammo has more than enough power  at typical deer hunting ranges.

  4. 8mm Mauser is a very good deer round. My friend has taken many deer with his.

I don't know about Mitchell's Mausers ammunition, I'd use the good stuff off the shelf at the gun shop. I think if you wanted to get the maximum potential from your 8mm, you would have to reload your own.

Here are some good choices on this link. The full metal jacketed rounds on this page do not apply.
