Mitchell Donaldson occupies Men’s 200m IM gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Mitchell Donaldson of North Shore Swimming occupied gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on third day of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Tuesday, March 19.
The 20-year-old Donaldson enjoyed a comfortable lead over his opponents in the four-lap discipline as he rushed his way towards the finishing end for gold medal. With his impeccable pace, Donaldson remained in a prominent lead over his toughest challenger
and reached the wall for first position.
He remained in a three second lead over his closest swimmer and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.60 seconds.
The champion was followed by Bradlee Ashby of Fairfield Swimming Club, who was almost three body length apart and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 04.39 seconds.
The silver medallist was traced by Kurt Crosland of Neptune Swimming Club, who stayed 0.04 seconds apart and posted a time of 2 minutes and 04.43 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Nathan Capp of Greerton, who stayed 0.69 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.12 seconds.
Capp was chased by Carsten Corazza of Howick Pakuranga, who stayed 2.44 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.56 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth spot of the event was secured by Nick Gillum of Capital Swim Club, who was 0.40 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.96 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Matthew Glassford of Neptune Swimming Club, who concluded his race in a time of 2 minutes and 09.33 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Wilrich Coetzee of Coast Swim Club, who was only 0.02 seconds behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 09.33 seconds.
Furthermore, the position holders received medals and accolades at the prize ceremony of the event.
