Mitchell Donaldson seizes Men’s 200m freestyle title – New Zealand SC Championships
Mitchell Donaldson of North Shore Swimming-AK seized gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle in 16 and over age category on initial day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September 30.
The 19-year-old Donaldson spoiled the party of his challengers in the four-lap freestyle discipline and paved his way to the finishing blockade for gold medal.
Donaldson remained one body length ahead of his following swimmer and sprinted his way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 50.17 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Isaac Foote of Capital Swim Club-WN, who stayed 0.94 seconds behind and tapped the wall for silver medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 51.11 seconds.
Foote was chased by Chris Dawson of Enterprise Cars SwimTeam-HP, who was 0.53 seconds apart and occupied third position of the race by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 51.64 seconds.
Dawson was trailed by Ted Taylor of Karori Pirates Swimming Club-WN, who remained 0.17 seconds apart and settled on the wall as fourth position holder by clocking a time of 1 minute and 51.81 seconds.
Taylor was traced by Rhys Applegarth of Waves Swimming Club-OT, who remained only 0.01 seconds apart and posted a time of 1 minute and 51.82 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Ben Quilter of Comet Swimming Club-HP, who stayed 0.23 seconds behind and hit the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 52.05 seconds.
Subsequently, Quilter was followed by Kane Radford of Swim Rotorua-BP, who suffered a loss of 0.20 seconds from his foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 52.25 seconds.
Radford was traced by Sam Turner of Capital Swim Club-WN, who stayed one and a half body length behind and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 53.93 seconds.
In addition, Donaldson was delighted with his gold winning form and articulated that he would try harder to achieve the same at superior levels of swimming.
