Mitchell Johnson’s comeback in the Australian side
Mitchell Johnson is one Australian bowler who can be labeled as the most experienced bowler in the Australian side. He has been around for quite some time and has won number of important matches for Australia. His performance at Perth was an exceptional
one as he single handedly destroyed the English batting in their first innings. It was a remarkable come back from the left hander as he was having some serious issues with the ball in the previous Tests. Mitchell Johnson was axed from the Australian side
after the first Test and his chances of making a comeback in the Australian side were looking small.
But Johnson was quite determined of making a comeback into the Australian side and worked really hard in the nets to prove his bowling. The main reason of him being discarded from the team was the fact that he did not bowl with a lot of discipline in the
first Test and was also quite expensive during his spells. However, the third Test was the turning point for him, as he took six vital wickets of England in the first innings and did not allow them to post a huge first innings total. This performance could
be the turning point of the series as Australia has taken a lot of confidence from a win in the Perth Test.
The Perth Test was perhaps the most important Test of Johnson’s career and they way he bowled in that Test is quite commendable. He was right on the money from the first ball and did not give much to the batsmen, to hit at. The sight of him dismissing the
top three batsmen of England will not be forgotten by cricket lovers for a long time. Mitchell Johnson’s return to form would be quite heartening for the Aussie selectors as the Australian bowling was struggling a lot, before the third Test. England started
well in the Perth Test and developed a good opening partnership on the second day but they didn’t have much idea of what was in store for them for the rest of the day. Mitchell Johnson had a wonderful opening spell and even when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 had not taken an
early wicket, he was troubling the English batsmen with his bowling.
Johnson took his first wicket of the match when he dismissed the in form Alastair Cook. It was a perfect delivery to the left hander as it was full and shaped away from Cook. The movement in the wicket was quite encouraging for Johnson, as he bowled an awesome
spell of bowling on the second day of the Test match. Johnson took a lot of encouragement from Cooks dismissal and started bowling in all the right areas. His next three dismissals were a classical example of in swing bowling, as none of the batsmen had any
clue of his bowling. He got a lot of late movement from the wicket and bowled some unplayable deliveries.
He trapped Jonathan Trott leg before of a delivery that came back into the right hander, quite sharply. Kevin Pietersen had a similar fate like Trott, as he was also trapped leg before of a beautiful in swinger. Collingwood was completely deceived by Johnson’s
pace and swing and was also judged leg before by the umpire. It was turning out to be a beautiful spell of bowling by Johnson, as he swung the ball beautifully in his spell and left the English batsmen wondering. It was a dream return for Johnson and a lot
of control was witnessed in his bowling. In the first Test, Johnson was guilty of bowling wayward lengths and not being able to test the batsmen in his spells.
The consistency was the factor which was lacking a lot in his bowling but his inclusion in the third Test proved to be a right one by the selectors. He took two more wickets in the end to complete his six wicket haul at Perth. In the second innings, he again
troubled the top order of England and picked three wickets in his spells. It was a beautiful spell of bowling by Johnson and his return would be a huge confidence booster for the Aussies.
