Mitchell Johnson's injury was severe, surgery was the best option, says Dr Trefor James - Cricket News Update
Cricket Australia's doctor, Trefor James, revealed on Thursday that the toe injury of ace Australian pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-c76390 Johnson, was a severe form of ligament injury and surgery was the only option.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 had sustained an injury to his left foot during last week’s Johannesburg Test and underwent a surgery on the toe on Thursday in Melbourne.
The surgery has sidelined Johnson for the next six months, which means the Australian fans would miss likes of their favourite speedster this southern summer in which Australia is due to host http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 had also confirmed that it might get six to seven months for Johnson to completely recover from the surgery and return to competitive cricket. Johnson’s absence from the squad could be a huge blow for his side already struggling to regain
its former world number one status in all formats of the game.
"...severe injury to ligaments, commonly referred to as 'turf toe' sustained when batting in the second Test in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 last week," said Dr Trefor James while giving the details of Johnson’s ligament injury.
"Although lesser degrees of this injury can be managed without surgery, Mitchell's injury was a severe form and surgery was clearly the best option," he added further.
The Aussie skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, said that Johnson’s absence from the squad will be strongly felt; however, he said that the layoff would not affect the Queenslander’s performance, rather it would give him time to relax and make a strong comeback.
"I don't see it as that big of a deal for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 while talking to the media reporters.
"But in regards to his individual career, I see no reason why he can't get back to his best, if not better, after his operation...time away the game to clear his head and get himself fit and strong and get back," he added further.
