http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s star fast bowler Mitchell Johnson claimed that he has been unlucky in recent times not to pick up wickets regularly, but believes his form was not bad on the recently concluded Sri Lankan tour.
Johnson was recently dropped from Australia’s Test and Twenty20 squad for the South African tour, but was retained for the One Day Internationals (ODIs).
The left-arm seamer has been inconsistent over the past few months and failed to impress the selectors after picking up just six wickets in a three-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
However, the 29-year-old said that he was satisfied with his performance. He claimed, “I actually felt I bowled pretty well, pretty consistent over in Sri Lanka. Obviously I didn’t get the wickets. That’s what the selectors want to see - wickets and runs.”
He admitted that there has been some pressure on his shoulders to do well as there are a few talented players coming up, increasing the level of competition. He added, “There’s always been pressure to perform and there’s always guys there pushing the envelope
to get the spot to be in the team.”
Australia will play two Twenty20s, three ODIs and a couple of Test matches against the Proteas in October/November, 2011.
The conditions in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 are more or less similar to Australia, which will make the competition very interesting.
This will also provide an opportunity to Johnson to regain his form and make a comeback to Test cricket. He has always been impressive on the African soil, as the conditions help him pick up wickets.
Apart from the left-arm pacer, there will be a few more players looking forward to make an impression in the upcoming series.
On top of that list will be the team’s Twenty20 skipper Cameron White, who has been out of touch in the recent past. He has been unable to score a half-century in his past 21 international appearances in limited-over cricket.
White will also be under pressure to perform as a skipper. He lost a two-match series against the Lankan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 by 0-2, but will be confident of a better show in the South African conditions.
