http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-c76390 Johnson as their second overseas player for this season’s Friends Life T20 tournament.
The 30-year-old left-arm pacer from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834, who was named ICC's Cricketer of the Year in 2009, does not hold an impressive record in the shortest format of the game as he has an economy rate of over 7 in the T20 cricket contrary
to the 3.34 in Tests.
He has not played a T20 international for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 since August 2011 and with the World T20 Championship around the corner, the Queenslander would be eager to prove a point in this season’s Flt20 to earn a recall for the esteemed
world championship to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in September this year.
Though Johnson was already struggling with injury issues and lost form, the emergence of young pacers – including likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Aaron-Starc-c76392 – specifically saw him losing favour in the Australian set up.
With a Test century and six half centuries in his name, the lef-armer is also a handy lower order batsman.
Speaking to the media reporters after singing the deal with Durham CCC, said that he was really excited about joining up the Dynamos at Riverside Ground, Chester-le-street.
"I've heard brilliant things about Durham…I'm really excited about joining up with the squad," said Johnson.
The left-arm pacer said that during stay at Riverside his focus will be not only on pace bowling but also on batting and vowed to take the side to the tournament final to be held in late August.
"Delivering match-winning contributions is important to me and that's not just with a focus on my bowling: all-round performances in T20 are really important and I want to leave at the end of July having secured our place at finals
day," the Queensland pacer added further.
Durham's chief executive, David Harker, added, "Mitchell is an excellent addition to our squad and he will certainly be a force to be reckoned with. One of our ambitions for 2012 is to get to t20 finals day and we have made the investment
to bring in players that we feel will enhance our already talented squad to help us achieve that. It'll be great for us to welcome Mitchell to the set up."
Herschelle Gibbs is Durham’s other overseas player for the 2012 Flt20 tournament.
