Mitchell Johnson unavailable for Durham – Cricket News Update
English County outfit, Durham, have confirmed that Australian pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MG-Johnson-c1945 will not represent the club for their Friends Life T20 campaign, owing to the player’s commitments with the national team.
The left-armer was signed by the Dynamos as their second overseas player for the current T20 season, but earned a recall to the Aussie squad, following a return from injury.
Johnson fractured his foot during a Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DR-Smith-c1401, after failing to recover in time.
The player was recently named in a 15-man squad, which will travel to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653.
Patrick Cummins, another raw talent, will be making his comeback in the team, making it tough for Johnson to get a reckoning.
However, the news comes as a blow for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782, who had hoped that the acquisition of a quality bowler would have helped them in achieving success this term. Their head coach, Geoff Hook, expressed disappointment after failing to acquire Johnson’s services.
“It’s very disappointing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472hat Johnson won’t be joining us. “We were looking forward to having someone of his stature around. Now we will have to look again at who might be available, but it’s a nuisance at this stage, when we have other issues to address.”
Durham will be starting their Friends Life T20 campaign on June 15 – an away game, which will see them traveling to Headingley to face http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 Carnegie.
The club however, is hopeful that their other overseas signing, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HH-Gibbs-c1549 is fit before the start of the T20 season. The South African is recovering from a finger injury, which has further curtailed his involvement in the IPL.
“We're not too worried about him. He's played quite a lot of Twenty20 cricket over the winter and he's going to arrive here about a week before our first match so he can acclimatize," Cook said.
