Mitchell Krueger crushes Max De Vroome to enter semis – Boys’ Singles Roland Garros 2012
Seeded eighth in the tournament, Mitchell Krueger devastated the Dutch challenger, Max de Vroome, with a breadstick at the Boys’ Singles French Open 2012 on Thursday. The American penned down a 6-2, 6-1 success against his fellow 18-year-old to breeze into
the semi-finals at this clay court Grand Slam tournament taking place from 22nd May to 10th June in Paris.
The seeded American needed one hour and six minutes to steal the show and progress into the final four. Krueger reeled off the last six games in a row to pull out the victory in their first encounter.
Krueger thundered into the Court number 17 and stroke out the opening three games in a row with two breaks of serve. Despite losing his serve in the very next game, the American bagged the last three games and clicked the opener with a 6-2 win.
Ranked 1921st in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Krueger perfected his game in the proceeding set. After De Vroome held his serve in the opening game, the American went on a six-game killing spree and carved out the victory
with a breadstick.
Summing up seed’s performance, Krueger failed to block the lone breakpoint he came across but exceptionally availed six out of 14 break chances to earn the glory. He produced a slightly higher first serve share of 65 per cent as compared to his rival’s 64
per cent and amazingly marked 17 out of 24 points on it. The American also fired five aces and spilled zero unforced errors which helped him clinch the match.
Up next for the American is the sixth seed, Kimmer Coppejans, who tumbled over British contestant, Kyle Edmund, in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The fifth seed, Filip Peliwo, will join Krueger in the final four. He crippled the American challenger, Noah Rubin, with a breadstick to progress. The Canadian youngster swiped in his entire serves with conviction and cashed in all four break chances to
formulate a 6-4, 6-1 score line in an hour-long venture. He produced a lower first serve share but impressively availed 19 out of 24 points on it.
