Mitchell Marsh called up as Brett Lee’s replacement – Cricket News Update
Australian cricket team selectors have called up rookie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh to replace the injured speedster Brett Lee in the One-Day leg of Australia's ongoing tour of South Africa.
Australia’s ace pace bowler, Brett Lee, was ruled out of the complete tour of South Africa after he underwent a surgery for appendicitis on Monday, October 10. Lee was part of Australia’s squad for limited-over leg of the itinerary and was in Cape Town when
he was diagnosed with appendicitis. He is still in Cape Town and will soon return to Australia.
The Chairman of Cricket Australia's National Selection Panel (NSP), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Mark-Jefferson-Hilditch-c44498, on Thursday announced Lee’s replacement while describing his injury unfortunate for the team as well as the player.
"Due to the unfortunate illness to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Marsh-c1974 will replace Brett Lee in the one-day squad for the VB Tour of South Africa,” said Hilditch while talking to the media reporters today.
Hilditch praised the good form of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-c76390 Marsh and hoped his inclusion in the squad would have a significant impact.
"Mitchell is a very exciting young all-rounder who we consider has the ability to have a significant impact at international level,” said Hilditch while talking to the media reporters.
Replying to a query, the Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 NSP chairman said that they already have four pacers in the squad so it was not necessary to pick a fast bowler as Lee’s replacement.
"The one-day squad already has four specialist fast bowlers in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653 and Patrick Cummins, so the national selection panel did not consider it necessary to replace Brett with a specialist fast bowler.
Australia will kick start its tour of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at Cape Town on Thursday, October 13. Besides the two-match T20 series, the mighty Aussies will play the Proteas in three one Day Internationals and two Test matches.
The tourists are also scheduled to play a four-day tour game against South Africa A, sandwiched between the One-Day and Test series.
