The Australian left-arm fast bowler, Mitchell Starc, believes that the decision to rest him against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 for the second Test at Melbourne was in the team’s best interest.
“If it went five days, I could have ended up bowling 50 overs or 40 overs, so it was the right decision for the team at the time,” shared Starc.
Despite being the fittest fast bowler in the Australian squad over the last year, the 22-year-old was rested by Australian selectors as part of their player rotation policy, to prevent any risk of injuries.
Feeling “shattered” after being dropped from the Boxing Day Test earlier last week, the young fast bowler came to terms with the decision, which he believes was right for the team.
“Absolutely any player who misses a Test is going to be disappointed. But it's all about the team. It was the right decision for my well being and the team as well,” added Starc.
The Australian side has been struggling with a number of injuries this season (particularly to fast bowlers) forcing many of its key players out of the playing XI. Fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757
which demanded exhausting efforts from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BW-Hilfenhaus-c1204 to cover up for him. Consequently, both Siddle and Hilfenhaus were rested in the final Test at Perth (to overcome the fatigue caused from excessive bowling) which earned Starc a Test recall
in line with his dazzling performances in the domestic arena.
After taking 8 wickets on his return, at Perth against the Proteas, the 22-year-old led http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to their first Test victory at home this summer by dismissing five Sri Lankan batsmen on the final day at Hobart.
His replacement for Melbourne, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jackson-Munro-Bird-c65187, took 4 wickets on his debut for Australia. Hailing the young bowler, Starc added, “It was no real surprise that he's taken wickets at Test level, he's done it at domestic level for two years now.”
Starc is all set to play the final Test against Sri Lanka in Sydney next week, where the Kangaroos will be eying a complete whitewash.
