Mitchell Starc eying a comeback to the national side ahead of the tri-series finals - Cricket News Update
The struggling Australia pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Aaron-Starc-c76392 is hopeful of making a comeback into the national squad ahead of the triangular Commonwealth Bank series finals.
The 22-year-old left-arm pacer from New South Wales was replaced by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, after he struggled to get wickets, managing only a solitary scalp in his last three games. The rookie pacer will also miss Sunday’s
game against India, as he was not part of the 13-member squad that was announced by the selectors of Cricket Australia on Friday morning.
Starc is currently playing for his state side New South Wales in the ongoing List A tournament of Australia, the Ryobi Cup. He returned with figures of 4 for 39 in their four-wicket win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865 at Perth on February 22. He hopes that his current
form in domestic cricket will help him earn a recall to the national side before the tri-series finals, starting at Brisbane on March 4, 2012.
"If I can keep taking wickets and the ball keeps coming out all right, then anything can happen," said the 22-year-old left-arm paceman while speaking to the Australian media.
"I'll be ready to go if called upon. I've just got to keep learning...and if I can keep contributing to wins for NSW, that's the main thing,” he added further.
The pace bowler will play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 in a four-day Sheffield Shield match against Queensland to be held from March 1 to 4 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Since the first final of the CB series is also scheduled to be held on March 4, Starc said his focus is on the match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 rather than the tri-series final.
"If I start focusing on trying to get back into the team, it's not going to do me any good. I'm happy with how the ball's coming out and the body's feeling good," Starc added further.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 stands at the bottom with just 10 points in six
games.
