Mitchell Starc warns http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 not to write Aussies off – Cricket News Update
Ace Australian pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mitchell-Aaron-Starc-c76392 has warned England not to take his side lightly in the away leg of the back to back Ashes series, to be played in England in July and August this year.
The 23-year-old gangling New South Wales seamer, who has been picked up for the tour alongside fellow quicks http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PM-Siddle-c2197 led Australian attack will have to play out of their skins to compensate for Australia's fragile batting.
The Poms currently hold the Ashes urn after having convincingly won the 2010-11 Ashes series down under with a 3-1 margin and are favourites to retain the urn come the first of the two Ashes battles on English soil in July, especially after the Kangaroos 4-0 humiliation at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 earlier this year.
Starc, who left the forgettable tour of India early to undergo surgery on his troublesome ankle, agreed that his side would enter the series as underdogs . However, confident his first Ashes stint will not be in a losing cause.
"Obviously they're pretty confident at the moment with some of the things I've been hearing," the 23-year-old left-arm medium pacer told Sydney's Daily Telegraph on Friday.
"We'll go in as underdogs, but we'll take that tag and run with it. We have a good chance to show our doubters how good we can be and come back with that urn.”
"We're going over to win, there's no other reason we're going over. We've had our doubters, but we'll go over to win and we'll compete very strongly," he went on to add.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 seamer made his ODI debut against India in Visakhapatnam in October 2010 but the ankle injury prevented him from playing in the Ashes series later that year. Having had a second operation in March this year, Starc is a doubtful starter for the Champions League preceding the Ashes, but the Aussie seamer is confident he will be firing on all cylinders come the one-day tournament in June.
"I've got more range in it now than I have had for three or four years since my first operation," Starc added of the ankle.
"It's feeling good and I'm easing back into it, but starting to ramp it up now with bowling next week. I've still got a couple of weeks up my belt to be ready to go for that first game in England.”
