Mitchelton Wineries – Lowe Farms banner to race as the second GreenEdge squad for the 2012 season
Team GreenEdge will kick off the 2012 season with the Jayco Bay Cycle Classic. Scheduled on January 1st, the four-day stage race will conclude on January 4th.
The cyclists will ride through the Ritchie Boulevard, Geelong Eastern Park, Portarlington and conclude the race at Williamstown on the final day.
GreenEdge will enter the 2012 Jayco Bay Cycle Classic with two different teams as a total number of nine cyclists will be split to form two squads.
One of the teams will be led by Matthew Goss while Baden Cooke will handle the second GreenEdge squad.
The two GreenEdge teams will race under the names of Mitchelton Wineries – Lowe Farms banner and GreenEdge.
Matthew Goss will lead the team GreenEdge while Baden Cooke will be held responsible for the Mitchelton Wineries side.
Cooke will have the support of Under 23 time trial champion of 2011, Luke Durbridge, and the 2010 Commonwealth Games champion, Allan Davis.
On the other hand, Team GreenEdge will ride with a strong line-up of Matthew Goss, Robbie McEwen, Leigh Howard, Mitch Docker and Wes Sulzberger.
John Trevorrow, Race Director, believes that the competition between the two squads will add more excitement to the race.
He mentioned, “We have all seen the camaraderie between the squad at their first team camp, but there is no doubt that when the racing starts at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic on January 1, it will be game on".
John further added, "They are professional competitors. Robbie and Gossy, I know are charged to go and I'm sure the expectation from the media and fans will add that little more to the fold”.
Team GreenEdge received its UCI World Tour license for the 2012 and 2013 seasons and will ride at its debut season at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012.
Shayne Bannan and Andrew Ryan have been given the management role for the Australian squad, GreenEdge.
The team has completed its squad for the coming season and a total number of 30 cyclists will represent GreenEdge in the 2012 season. Scott Sports will be the major apparel supplier for the team.
