Mitchie Brusco to attempt skate world’s first 1080 for testicular cancer fundraiser at Camp Woodward
The 14-year-old skateboarding phenomenon, Mitchie Brusco is teaming up with the International Testicular Cancer Foundation to raise awareness about the fatal disease and to do so, he plans on creating skating history by landing the first ever 1080 at Camp
Woodward’s Mini MegaRamp in Pennsylvania on Friday, August 19.
According to Woodward’s action sports director Chuck March, the young prodigy from Kirkland Washington told him that he’ll be coming to Camp Woodward to pull off the 1080.
While Brusco is still very young, he has proven to be wise beyond years on numerous occasions. Not only did he become the youngest skater to make a debut in X Games last month in Los Angeles, he managed to make history by landing the first X Games 900 during
a practice session.
With the potential that the young skater holds, one cannot completely rule out the possibility of him doing what nobody has been able to do before, though the chances to see the trick get executed successfully do seem a little dim.
Brusco admits the daunting task of accomplishing the much-hyped feat is not going to be a piece of cake. While never to have attempted the 1080 before in his life, he feels that a successful 900 may give him the necessary confidence to go for the big one.
According to him, the charity event at Camp Woodward may very well be the perfect time and place to go for the trick.
The Kirkwood-native is not familiar with anyone who suffers from the testicular cancer, but still feels the need to raise awareness about the impact that the deadly disease can have.
Talking about his inspiration to get involved in the charitable cause, Brusco said, “The main thing that connected me to [the cause] was that my grandma had breast cancer, and I know how much that hurt the family when we found out. Any cancer to me is worth
[raising money for], With testicular cancer, I'm approaching that prime age. It's something that people need to be aware of, something that they need to talk about.”
In order to raise funds for the cancer patients, Brusco is holding a charity challenge. He is persuading the potential donors to base the amount of their donation on the degree of rotation that he can successfully complete.
The skateboarding community is applauding the effort that Brusco is making for the charitable cause and admit that one can never truly know what the young sensation is capable of.
