I have a 2-3 month old Campbell's Russian dwarf hamster. For a while now he has been a little itchy, but now he is losing some hair around his ears and his fur is getting oily/ruffled. I just wanna know if this was mites before i took him tot he vet. (I recently had guinea pig have to be put down because of mites) =(

  1. There are other endless factors of why he could be itching, but still take him to the vet and get him checked out. It might be something easily taken care of.

  2. Poor little guy =[

You should definately go to the vet for that

Animals don't lose fur for nothing

  3. He could have mites, mange or something else called

fleas. He could be allergic to his food or got into something

that is causing this reaction. You are doing the right thing

by getting him to the vet. Good luck.

  4. Take him to the vet first. It could be many things.

Second, in the bird section at your pet store they sell a product that attaches to the outside of the cage that will kill mites. You can use these on all small animals. We used them on our lizard/ snake and rat cages with great success for years. Just be sure that the hammy cant reach the holder (we put ours on the very top, center of the cage)
