Mixed Emotions for Anaheim Ducks veteran Teemu Selanne until September –NHL offseason Update
Teemu Selanne might be 41-years-old now, but he is still playing better than any new draft pick in the league. Anaheim Ducks veteran right winger is still unclear about whether he will continue to play for another season or will announce his retirement.
According to the player, he needs until September to sort it all out.
Many might think that Selanne is slowing down and retirement is his only option remaining, but than if they think again after viewing his last seasons statistics, it looks like he is not showing any signs of slowing down any time soon.
Playing 73 games during the 2010-2011 season, Teemu Selanne put up impressive numbers by scoring 80 points (31 goals, 49 assists) and finishing off with a total plus-minus rating of 6.
According to Los Angeles Kings head coach, Terry Murray, Selanne is looking better than ever.
“I don’t see any change in his skating ability, speed and hands”, Los Angeles Kings head coach Terry Murray said in an interview in July. “When you get to be more of a veteran player, those guys can adjust and play the smart game at the next level that’ll
prolong your career. That’s where a player like Selanne has taken himself”.
In June, the future Hall of Famer underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, which might, if Selanne chooses to retire, be the reason for him doing so. Otherwise, he is healthier than a horse according to Anaheim Ducks medical staff.
Hailing from Helsinki, Finland, Teem Selanne was selected as the 10th overall player in the 1988 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft by the then, Winnipeg Jets.
Selanne has played with a number of team’s during his vast 17 year major league career including with franchises like Winnipeg, Anaheim, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche. He tried to leave Anaheim during the 2000-2001 season but returned to the team
again in 2006 after failing to find his game with either San Jose or Colorado.
It is not a surprise that Selanne has previously announced that if he decides to return, then it will be with Anaheim Ducks and no other team.
