Question:

Mixed baby shower? Who decides, the host or the mom-to-be?

I am hosting a baby shower for one of my friends, and a mom-to-be's cousin suggested to me that I should organize a mixed baby shower. I have attended and hosted mixed baby showers before, and that implied "bring your kids too." The last time I organized a mixed baby shower in my house, the kids were out of control. The truth is that I don't want to be worried about what kids are doing during the party. I would like to know if I have the right to tell the mom-to-be that I prefer to host an adults-only -if is mixed- or a ladies-only baby shower .

  1. hire a party clown or something......kids need to have fun....even 1 second of boredom is not acceptable

  2. If the mom-to-be's cousin wants to have a mixed baby shower, maybe you should suggest to her to find a person that would watch all of the children and keep them entertained in another section of the place that it is being held, while the baby shower is in progress, so that the adults can enjoy themselves. Maybe a couple of teens. And maybe she can give them a couple of bucks for their trouble.

  3. your home; your decision totally.

  4. it is rude to ask parents to leave their kids at home. the kids should be able to share in the party too. it is NOT rude to tell the parents to make their children mind however.

  5. If you are hosting a party you have every right to invite only who you want. It seems kinda weird though that children are not invited to a party about celebrating a new child.

  6. If you are the only hostess and not sharing the cost with anyone else, you can give what ever kind of shower you want. It is presumptuous for the cousin to tell you what you do in your home. But if choose to have a mixed baby shower, do it at a local park. Make it a potluck picnic style. Saves you money and quites the critics. If they still raise a ruckus, tell then you will miss them but send a gift for the new baby
