Mixed doubles pair Robertson, Wallwork seal crown in Yonex Polish International 2012
The mixed doubles experts Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork from England sealed the crown in Yonex Polish International on March 25, 2012.
The British pair, who was also top seeded in the tournament, lived up to the expectations and bagged the honour by beating their compatriot pair Ben Stawski-Lauren Smith in just two games.
The World Number 22 pair Robertson-Wallwork took just 22 minutes to register final figures of 21-15 and 21-11 in their favour.
The title match was a great show of skills from both teams as they stretched themselves to overcome their opponents but the experienced couple Robertson-Wallwork established their supremacy by clinching two consecutive match points.
The young finalists Smith and Stawski registered their presence by putting 15 crucial points on the score board in first set and then 11 in the decider. They emerged as a future hope for the country by putting some strong resistance against their higher
ranked opponents.
The male member of the championship duo Nathan Robertson looked contented on their performance despite of the trouble they had to face against their inexperienced rivals.
He said, “We actually played really well here this week and even though we were rarely troubled it really said a lot about our level this week. It was always difficult to come back after the disappointment of last week.”
Last week, the mixed doubles experts Robertson-Wallwork went down against their compatriots Adcock-Bankier and it resulted in their five place drop in the world rankings which damaged their run in the Olympics qualification race.
Their recent win in the 36th edition of Polish International event has fetched some valuable ranking points for them and the veteran British player Robertson was on cloud nine after winning this honour.
He said, “It is always still a great feeling to win a tournament and there are not many left for me so I treasure these wins.”
The mixed doubles expert Nathan Robertson is going to call it a day after the London Olympics and he desperately want to secure a spot in the mega event.
For this, he and his partner Jenny Wallwork will be looking to unseat their compatriot rivals the World Number 12 pair Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier before the Olympic qualification period ends in May.
