Mixed doubles pair of Tontowi Ahmad, Liliyana Natsir continue successful run in Swiss Open
The Indonesian mixed doubles team Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir continued their successful run in the Swiss Open by edging Anders Kristiansen-Line Damkjaer Kruse from Denmark on March 15, 2012.
The top seeded couple sealed the victory after an epic three set tussle which ended with decisive figures of 21-15, 20-22 and 21-14.
The All-England Champions Tontowi-Liliyana eased into the quarter-finals with this win and now they are scheduled to face the Malaysian couple Peng Soon-Liu Ying.
The mixed doubles experts reserved their rights to be in the top eight teams of the event by passing a 52-minute test against the Danes in pre quarter-finals.
World Number four duo Tontowi-Liliyana established their authority over their opponents Anders Kristiansen-Line Damkjaer from the opening set. They exhibited their prime skills while registering notable margin of 21-15 on the board.
The Indonesians dazzled the Danish contenders with their lustrous performance and pushed them on the back foot by scoring four consecutive points. Their 15 points, they earned with powerful smashes, were the proof of their upper hand over the losing duo.
The second set was the best part of the match when both teams put all they got to unseat each other. The prime display of court craft from both competitors kept the spectators glued to their chairs.
The second game of the match kept swinging between two contenders until the last point but the partnership of Anders Kristiansen-Line Damkjaer fetched the best from second game.
They levelled the lead by placing a tight but decisive margin of 22-20 on the board.
The nerve-racking second set brought life back into the match as the decider turned consequential with both teams looking to pocket the final match point.
The duo of Tontowi-Liliyana revived their lost chemistry and got into commanding position from the beginning. In third set, they earned 16 points with their powerful smashes only and kept their opponents Anders Kristiansen-Line Damkjaer busy in picking the
bird from the ground.
The edged their rivals by putting the distinctive margin of 21-14 on the board which also concluded their 2-1 victory.
The prime mixed doubles experts Tontowi-Liliyana will now strive hard against Peng Soon-Liu Ying to escort Indonesia to glory in the Swiss Open.
