Mixed emotions from both camps as inclement weather postpones Game 6 – MLB Update
Leading 3-2 in the seven-game series against St. Louis Cardinals, the Texas Rangers are now just one win away from bagging their first ever World Series title. They failed to make their presence count in the last edition, losing to San Francisco Giants in five games, but the body language of the team suggests that the Rangers have learned their lesson and are now ready to lift their first title in 51 years.
The Rangers, at least, will not be worried about rain postponing Game 6 of the Fall Classic by at least one day to Thursday, October 27. Primarily scheduled for Wednesday, October 26, inclement weather forced authorities to reschedule the game even before rain actually came in St. Louis.
Commenting on the situation, Rangers’ infielder Michael Young asserted that players from either side have loads of experience to deal with the postponement and thus this should not have an effect on the outcome of the game. He continued that people might be thinking that players get nervous, but in reality, nothing of this sort happens.
Authorities pushed Game 6 to Thursday and Game 7, if required, to Friday, October 28. The Cardinals have no other option but to win Game 6 if they are to stay in contention for the crown.
Cardinals’ slugger Lance Berkman, however, was not satisfied with the logic of rescheduling the game when the weather was better than what it was during game 1 of the World Series. Explaining his concern, Berkman said, "I'm not even sure why they cancelled it. The previous World Series that I was in [in 2005], we had Game 1 and Game 2 in Chicago and the weather was horrible. It was raining and it was in the low 40s and we had no problems. We played right through that. Game 1 [of the 2011 World Series in St. Louis], I felt like the weather was worse. So I don't know. It's their call. We play when they tell us to play."
Rangers’ outfielder Josh Hamilton, nevertheless, disagreed with the notion and stated that with the World Series on line, it is always better to wait until authorities are content with the conditions.
The rain delay might not have an impact on the outcome of the game, but will surely give both team more time to map out strategies for the crunch tie.
