Mixed expectations with Barry Bonds sentencing on Friday -MLB Update
The Barry Bonds case related to his use of performance enhancing drugs and steroids during his career as a professional baseball player has certainly been a deep and controversial scene for Major League Baseball (MLB), especially for the leagues reputation.
Over the years, the MLB has tried to keep such things out of its system, but they have failed on numerous occasions when players tested positive but still kept on playing. Now that they have had enough of the external and internal pressure, the MLB is imposing
heavy suspensions on such players when proven guilty.
There are mixed expectations related to the Barry Bonds sentencing expected to go down on Friday, December 16, 2011, with some suggesting that the former MLB player will be awarded a major jail sentence while others are of the view that a minor one or even
no jail time will be decided by the judge,.
Federal probation officers are rumoured to be appealing to U.S District Judge Susan Illston to some type of house arrest, which could be quite lavish for the player who lives in a two-acre estate in Beverly Hills which has six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms,
much better than living in any type of jail.
Being sentenced for a possible of three-years could be in the pipeline for Bonds along with some sort of community service if he is awarded house arrest instead of serving jail time.
The prosecutors on the other hand are seeking a prison sentence of 15 months or even more.
Bonds’ pervasive efforts to testify falsely, to mislead the grand jury, to dodge questions, and to simply refuse to answer questions in the grand jury makes his conduct worthy of a significant jail sentence,” prosecutors wrote the court last week.
Barry Bonds, who has 22-years of experience playing professional baseball and is labelled as one of the best in history of the sport, will have up to 14 days in order to file any sort of appeal after convicted on Friday.
Further developments are expected in the upcoming day about what leads to be the case in one of the most controversial trials in history of the MLB.
