Mixed luck for Pieter Jan Postma on Day 3 of 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta
Netherlands’ Pieter Jan Postma had a tremendous sail on the second day of 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta, as he grabbed top positions in both races of the day. He finished third on Day 2 and began Day 3 with a second place finish in first
race. However, under strong wind conditions, the Dutch couldn’t maintain his run and tumbled down at number nine in the second race of Day 3.
Postma was one of the four sailors who took a distinct lead and pulled away from the rest of the fleet. The weather conditions were quite tough, as the breeze gusted over 20 knots around the racing area but Postma sailed brilliantly to finish second. He
started the second race with high spirits but unfortunately couldn’t sustain his sail and settled for 9th place.
While speaking to the local media at the end of Day Three, Postma said, “The first race was really shifty, really hard and a lot of pressure differences, maybe around five to six knots difference, so it was a complicated game today. In the first race there
was not a lot of risk taking. I lost a little in the middle of the race and with good downwind speed moved up to second at the finish.”
He added, “There were a lot of things you had to take into account today. The first race was good for me, but the second was more shifty. I was going really well but missed a couple of shifts. Actually the shifts were the biggest we have seen the past few
weeks.”
