Mixed performances from the Ryder Cup players at the Italian Open
From the Italian Open, four players of the European Ryder Cup team will head straight to Chicago, to take part in the 39th Ryder Cup.
Among them, Martin Kaymer, Nicolas Colsaerts and Francesco Molinari will go as players, where as Jose Maria Olazabal will be captaining the European team.
At the Italian Open, there have been mixed performances from the European Ryder Cuppers. The duo of Martin Kaymer and Nicolas Colsaerts has performed well, especially the German, Kaymer. He hit his stride on the right time, just before the Ryder Cup.
After three rounds, the German was at 13-under, only four shots behind the leader. A major plus is that he has been in his zone after a long time.
Martin had only bogeyed twice in three rounds and his round on Saturday included six birdies and a bogey. Kaymer knows that if he shoots a low round on Sunday, he might win his first title this year.
"Yes, I think it will be a good weekend, because I played consistent and if the putter gets a little warmer then I think I could put myself up there," he said.
"I'm only three shots behind now (four by the end of the round), we will see where I am going to be by the end of the day, but it shouldn't be too far away. I think it's do-able to put myself up there for Sunday," he concluded.
Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium is also standing at T8 with his team member, Kaymer. After an average first round, Nicolas really hit his stride by shooting 67 and 65 in the second and third round, respectively.
His third round in Turin was an absolute stunner. The man from Brussels scored eight birdies but ended with a bogey on the par 4, 16th.
The Italian Francesco Molinari, playing in front of his home crowd, was not as impressive, as he shot 4-over on Saturday.
The Italian, who now resides in London, had a decent first two rounds but somehow blasted all over the place during the third.
The European Ryder Cup team Captain Jose Maria Olazabal also shot a four-over 76 to close off his third round.
