Mixed reaction from players to NFL announcement of bounty scandal punishments - NFL News
The reaction to National Football League (NFL) commissioner, Roger Goodell’s announcement of punishments for New Orleans Saints players for their involvement in the bounty scandal has been mixed as some players agree with the commissioner’s tough stance
while others are outraged by the severity of the punishments.
Goodell on Wednesday suspended four players in connection with the bounty scandal.
New Orleans Saints linebacker, Jonathan Vilma, defensive end, Will Smith, former Saints and now Green Bay Packers defensive lineman, Anthony Hargrove and Cleveland Browns linebacker, Scott Fujita each received suspensions for their involvement in the scandal.
Vilma received the harshest of the punishments by the commissioner as he was suspended without pay for the entirety of the 2012-13 season.
Players across the league took to social media platform, Twitter to give their reactions on the bounty scandal.
Super bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) and New York Giants quarterback, Eli Manning supported the decision by Roger Goodell to suspend the players.
"I think he's doing the right thing to make sure this doesn't happen ever again. There's no room for any kind of bounty system in the NFL. It's a physical sport and you've got to respect the game."
However, not everyone was pleased that the Saints players were punished so severely.
Saints running back Mark Ingram wrote on his Twitter account.
"Don't worry they just makin us hungrier and puttin a bigger chip on or shoulder!! #WHODATNATION will rise above it!! #believedat,"
While tight end, Jimmy Graham, wrote on his account.
“This is beyond ridiculous! I want to see the evidence and hear an explanation. Its sad when u have to hear about it on tv. Ridiculous!”
Many other players also stated their anger at the punishments.
Derrick Mason the retired former wide receiver of the Houston Texans wrote on his account that taking an entire season away from Vilma is wrong as the players already have just a few years in the NFL.
The fallout from these punishments will continue in the coming days as more information over the punishments is revealed to the public.
Punishments of such magnitude will have a huge negative impact on the upcoming 2012-13 season for the Saints and it remains to be seen how they fare with the impact of the suspensions.
