Mixed start for Craig Steadman in new snooker season – Snooker Update
Previous snooker season did not bring any luck to the English cueman, Craig Steadman because he was unable to perform according to the standards during his season campaign.
The Englishman was unable to clinch any noticeable major ranking tournament win but he performed convincingly in the Players Tour Championship (PTC) and reached the advance stages in some of these events.
Booking a place in the new snooker season was indeed tough for the English potter because he failed to perform up to the mark in the 2011 World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) which was necessary to earn a tour place in the new snooker season. However,
his good form in the 2011-12 PTC Series reserved a place for him in the next two snooker seasons.
Steadman started his new snooker season campaign with his match in the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament qualifying session at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. He was placed in the first round of the qualifying session where he was up against compatriot
and friend Michael Wild. He performed brilliantly against him and claimed the victory by the score line of 5-3. He reached the second round where he crashed out of the event at the hands of Liu Chuang.
While speaking to World Snooker, Steadman said, “Michael Wild and I have been friends for years. He played in Q School this year and though he didn't make it through, he finished high up on the Q School ranking list so he'll get into a few events. I actually
phoned him up to ask how high he was on the list and he didn't know anything about it.”
He added, “Funnily enough the draw came out the next day and we were playing each other! It was odd playing someone I know so well but I played well and won 5-3.”
Grabbing a pro tour ticket for the next two years is indeed a tremendous achievement for Steadman as it will give him a lot of opportunities to improve his rankings. It will be interesting to see what type of impact Steadman will have during the new snooker
season as he will be looking to put in a good performance and become competitive.
