Miyu Otsuka clinches Women’s 400m IM gold: Day two - 2012 Sette Colli Meet, Italy
Miyu Otsuka of Japan clinched gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 Sette Colli Meet in Rome, Italy on Friday, June 15.
Otsuka devastated hopes of her opponents in the distant IM discipline as she proved her dominance for the crown of the event. With her stupendous efforts, she remained comfortably ahead of her challengers and hit the finishing wall for gold medal.
She enjoyed an advantage of nearly two body lengths over her closest swimmer and clocked a timing of 4 minutes and 38.73 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained 2.15 seconds faster from Stefania Pirozzi of Italy, who proved her eligibility for silver medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 40.88 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Izumi Kato of Japan, who was almost one body length apart and made her way to the medal rostrum with an effort of 4 minutes and 41.82 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Kathryn Meaklim of South Africa, who stayed nearly six seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 47.63 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Yana Martynova of Russia, who was 0.26 seconds behind emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 47.89 seconds.
Similarly, Martynova was chased by Francesca Aceto of Italy, who was nearly four seconds apart and reported a time of 4 minutes and 52.03 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Susanna Negri of Italy, who was two body lengths apart and made her way to the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 53.85 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was secured by Valentina Panunzi of Italy, who failed to give hard time to any of her opponents and tapped the wall with the timing of 5 minutes and 00.47 seconds.
Furthermore, the arena went wild with the gruelling efforts of all position holders in the 400m discipline while the session ended after the event.
