Miz Ida and highwieght Centre Court to battle it out in the Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs
The Grade 2, $175,000 Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs on 17 November, 2012, has reeled in a full field of 12 sophomore fillies, and among those is the G. Watts Humphrey Jr’s 3-yeara-old filly, Centre Court, who will be the top weight of 120 pounds over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on turf.
Mrs. Revere Stakes will be one of the last local grass stakes race of the season at Churchill Downs, and Centre Court, who is a perfect 2 of 2 at Churchill Downs, over lengthier distances, will look to keep her perfect record intact by capitalizing on 11 other sophomore fillies.
Trained by Rusty Arnold, Centre Court in her past two starts, have been lacking that finishing touch, as she has finished back-to-back second place finishes starting from the 1 1/8 mile Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes at Saratoga to winner, Stephanie’s Kitten, and to Dayatthespa in the Grade 1 QE II Challenge Cup at Keeneland, also at 1 1/8 miles.
Centre Court will break from the seventh hole, with Julien Leparoux a good part of the 120 pound impost.
Rest of the 11 fillies will carry equal weights of 118 pounds, including the likes of Miz Ida, who is currently coming off a victory in the Grade 3 Valley View Stakes at Keeneland over 1 1/16 miles.
The Proud Citizen filly will be vying for her fourth consecutive victory in the Mrs. Revere Stakes , winning the Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes, and the Indiana Downs Distaff Stakes prior to the Valley View Stakes victory.
"She's doing really good right now," trainer Steve Margolis said. "She's been working good and everything has been really positive.
"I think we've learned something about her since the Edgewood. She was close to the pace and was a little rank in the Edgewood. All of her best races are when she comes from a little further behind. Since the Edgewood, she's been dropping back and settling and making a run. That seems to be her style."
