Question:

Mizpah necklace and Jehovah's Witnesses?

I am looking to get a mizpah necklace for my boyfriend and I. It has a Bible inscription on it, saying something about the Lord watches over us as we are absent from eachother, or something like that.

Mizpah is a watchtower, or so it's said in the encyclopedias, and I serached for Jehovah Witnesses on google, and it came up "The WatchTower".

I really don't want to get anything that has to do with Jehovah's Witnesses. I know that it has an actual Bible verse on it, which makes me feel better, because we are both very strong Christians.

Can someone help me figure this out?

  1. If you are so confused, why get the necklace? Get something else. You will always have doubts about it.

  2. Yeah, any JW would be creeped out by a necklace with any kind of symbol on it. They can't even wear a peace symbol! They put the peace symbol in the same category as the swastika in fact. they are afraid of either offending their hyper-sensitive ego-maniac god, or attracting demons that like to inhabit religious symbols.

So, no, JWs are scard to death of anything that smacks of a religious symbol.

Of course they don't mind wearing wedding rings, which are pagan, or going to baby showers which are pagan, so who knows what kind of logic they appeal to to settle the storm of dissonance in their heads. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, they don't have to use logic, they just do whatever the Watchtower says.

If the Watchtower says "wear a pagan wedding ring" they do it. If the Watchtower says " don't  wear a pagan peace sign because it is pagan" they don't do it. Simple as that.

  3. Jehovah's Witnesses ARE Christians....but we don't wear religious symbols (even the Watchtower).  So a mizpah necklace would never symbolize JW's.

  4. We have nothing to do with Mizpah necklace, this id the first time about that kind of necklace.

  5. We, as Jehovah's Witnesses would NEVER wear a symbol for religious reasons- as that is considered idolatry.

We accept Jesus as our Savior & Redeemer & are Christians.

  6. I am not sure whether to feel insulted or not about comments on Jehovah's Witnesses.  I will answer one of your questions.

There are several locations in ancient Israel named Mizpah.  Yes, the word means "watchtower".  Several battles and other things happened in all the places and is mentioned in the Bible several times.  Not always the same place.

The only thing it has to do with JWs is the fact we look to the Bible for all our knowledge about God and what He wants humanity to do.  We also have a magazine called, "The Watchtower".  That name is what the search engine picked up as a common thread with Mizpah.

As JWs obey the Bible and have no religious or idolatrous symbols or jewelry, we have no connection with any necklace for boy or girl.

  7. I never heard of a mizpah until just now, and I was reared as a Jehovah's Witness.  Unless something weird has changed, I don't think you have anything to worry about.  A mizpah is not related to or has anything to do with Jehovah's Witnesses.
