Mizuno Classic 2012: Beatriz Recari happy with first-round performance
Spanish Beatriz Recari was happy with her performance in the first round of Mizuno Classic 2012 as she shot a 69—but a 74 on Saturday dented her confidence.
Recari, who boasts a solid profile on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, opened her first round on Friday at Kintetsu Kashikojima Country Club, Shima-s**+, Mie, Japan, in
impressive style and made perfect shots on most of the holes.
The course conditions were favourable, but strong gusts of winds kept several players in trouble.
With her solid drives and putting, the Spanish star managed to take the share of 23rd position on the leaderboard.
Since Japanese and other Asian stars are enjoying a massive crowd support compared with their American and European rivals, happy looks on the faces of local and South Korean players can vanish
if Angela Stanford toughens up in the third and final round.
After managing to take the share of third position, Stanford has put herself in a far stronger position than most of her fellow European stars, and she is ready to take on Asians more aggressively
on Sunday.
Recari, who may not be as strong a contender as South Korean Na Yeon Choi and the defending champion Momoko Ueda, said in her first-round interview on Friday that she is satisfied with her
performance.
The Spanish golfer said that she has worked hard on her putting and long game, which is proving productive for her scoring average.
When asked how she is going to tackle rivals in the next round, Recari said that she has a clear plan, which will help her avoid sloppy strokes on the greens.
“So I feel like I’m definitely doing things the right way. I think the last three weeks the only thing that’s been missing is to get some putts dropping and that definitely happened today.
I played really solid and I’m just one stroke off, so I’m feeling really good,” said Recari who is the only Spanish star in the lineup featuring names like current world number one Yani Tseng and American Stacy Lewis.
“I felt great. I’ve been feeling really good about my game for a long time. It’s just an anecdote, like in Malaysia I finished tied for 19th, in Korea tied for 18th and
last week 17th”.
