i want to be a vet.

but i dont understand,

if i want to be a zoo vet..

do i have to go throught a whole diffrent college? or do i just voulterr at a zoo and say im a zoo vet?

if i wanted to be a livestock vet, or exotic...do i just voulnterr at a farm, and claim to be that also?

can someone clear this up for me.

  1. American veterinarian colleges are setup to train and educated small and large animal vets. Just like other schools you can get a higher degree, a masters, which would allow you to specialize.  There is no training for zoo vet.  It is very difficult getting in to any vet school in America.  There is actually more competition for vet school than medical school.  

    Only large wealthy zoos keep a vet on staff full time.  So the job field is very limited.  A good thing to do is take a volunteer job one summer at a zoo.


  2. Look at the different vet schools, some do offer specific programs like wildlife, zoo medicine, exotic, equine, and livestock. A lot of the Vet schools have a Vet teaching hospitals where senior students, interns, and residents work with animals. It would be good to do an internship or residency after you get your degree.
