Mmm...removing an intimate piercing?

I know this is a bit strange, but I am having difficulty removing my clitoral hood piercing. I got this done 20 months ago, but have never been able to unscrew the balls at the ends of the bar. My significant other has tried to help me with this, but nothing we try is working. I know the obvious answer is to go to a piercing parlour and ask for assistance, but I'm a bit shy about doing that (before ya think anything I actually got this piercing on a drunken whim, I never would do that normally!). Does anyone have any ideas on how to safely remove it?

Try a hot bath first to try and loosen up any crust that may be stuck around the balls and then maybe try something like these little grips: http://www.steelnavel.com/product.asp?ID...
