My 16 year old friend was over at my house and we were on myspace. She was talking to her ex boyfriend (her parents hate him, she's not allowed to see him). This kid that hates her called her parents and told on her, then her parents called our house to say she was grounded and they were coming over to pick her up.

She immediatly burst into tears, saying she hates her parents and never wanted to go home. They got there and as they were leaving i heard her dad say that there was a belt waiting for her at home.

Later that day my mom called to check on her and her mom said that her dad went straight up to her room with her and "tore her *** up" she said she wanted to get in there and give her some, but she figured she'd hade enough after her daddy got done with her HALF AN HOUR LATER. I mean for God's sake she's 16, i'd say she's outgrown spankings by at least 5 to 10 years.

What i really want to know: are there laws against this and should i contact somebody.

  1. danngg....

well that is a very harsh punishment...

you should talk to your friend asap.

  2. You can contact child protective services and they will investigate to see if any laws have been broken. If he left marks on her body it is definitely wrong. Child protective services will go out to the home and investigate. If you live in the United States you can call this toll free number and tell them what you know. By the way, it's best to have the parents and children's names and addresses nearby before you call. They will want to know all the details of your story, and how to find the child and parents. The calls are anonymous so neither your friend nor her parents have to know that you are the one that called. Good luck!

  3. Yes, that is absolutely illegal.

    You should.

  4. yes its illegal its child abuse you can call 18004achild its an anonymous hotline where your calls are confidential

  5. uhh yea, i dont even think ur allowed to spank kids with a belt.

  6. i used to get my a** spanked all the time thats whats wrong with half the kids today they arent getting enough discipline at home and their is a difference in abuse and discipline.

  7. I do believe that is considered abuse. A half hour of hitting her with a belt and her mom looking forward to "getting in there and giving her some" is abuse,I don't see what else it could be.  Also you have to wonder HOW someone that hates her found out she was at your house talking to that guy and managed to get her number and call her parents. Also I don't see how any parent could be proud of doing that and then telling someone all about it.Why would her mom talk freely about that to your mom? That just doesnt seem to right to me honestly.

If you feel you need to(in which case  I would advise) I would call the non-emergency police or Child Protective Services and tell them what happened and see if this is classified as abuse and if they can do something about it. Better now then later

  8. ya think???

    child abuse

    if shes that upset

uhh yeah i would tell somebody

  9. No matter the age it is actually illegal and child abuse to hit a child (yes even at 16 she is a child) with anything like that... CPS should be called to investigate it.

  10. It is not illegal to spank your kids people.  I do think she is a little old to be getting spanked tho.  I have a friend, her son called the cops on her because she spanked him.  The cops were pisst, they asked what he did, my friend told him what her son had done.  The cop looked at her son, and said "If you were my son, I would've beat your *** too."  It's not illegal and its not child abuse.  It's only child abuse when you over do it, like throw you kid down the stairs, or beat them for no reason, or beat them all the time.  Spanking when needed is fine.

  11. I would think about having her talk to a counselor and/or teacher at school about this. This doesn't sound like normal discipline for a 16-year-old. If she won't talk to anyone about it, maybe you should say something instead. Maybe she wasn't allowed to see/talk to him, and maybe she does bad things sometimes, I don't know, but to me, how her father disciplined her and how both her parents were talking about the discipline raises a red flag in my mind.

  12. Thats messed up. I'd call someone..If it was half an hour later-I'd consider that child abuse..

  13. I was smacked across the face and the head all the time up until 14 and the police and CPS considered it discipline not abuse. I live in Ohio and they consider this type of thing discipline(Well at least in Franklin County and l*****g County).  The cops will probably not do anything about it. But I'd call and report it.

  14. well. since you are not taking care of her and paying for her expenses then you dont get to talk who is right and who is wrong here. if you are going to take care of her then you get to talk to her dad who is taking care of her up until now.

  15. She got what she deserved.

  16. That is perfectly legal!!!  You just need to mind your own business.

  17. Anything that leaves a mark is considered abuse, end of story.

    Hope that helped!!!! :D

  18. yes this is deff. illegal.

contact the police and tell them what you heard.

but if your friend doesnt have any bruises or scars

they wont be able to do much.

and her parents will probably just hurt her more.

so before you contact the police make sure that

    you have proof.

  19. It's called child abuse. Your mother is the one who should be doing something about this, not you. Your mother should be charged with negligence for not doing anything.

  20. WTF. WHOS CARES IF THATS ILLEGAL OR NOT THATS JUST WRONG :[

  21. thats abuse and ur mother needs to call cps

  22. She deserved to be punished but not with a belt. Why were you letting her use your computer to disobey her parents' orders? You helped get her into trouble.

  23. That's abuse.
