Mo Martin says her father encouraged her to become a golfer
American Mo Martin, who is still seeking to win her first LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) title, has said that her father encouraged her to join golf, and his guidance has always kept her motivated.
Speaking to the media about how she rose to fame and started playing golf, Martin said that she had never thought that she would be hitting a ball in professional tournaments some day, but her father has been with her every step of the way, making everything easier for her.
However, the only thing that makes Martin stand out is that she is still a rookie on the LPGA Tour — something analysts say keeps her motivated.
A professional since 2005, the American star has been struggling to prove her mettle on the LPGA Tour as she has taken part in all the major championships.
However, she has not been able to perform well enough to boost her credibility. Nevertheless, she is a known figure on the Futures Tour, where she has racked up 3 titles so far.
Analysts said that winning events on the Futures Tour certainly cannot be compared with the LGPA or LET (Ladies European Tour), but Martin has the guts and passion to keep making efforts on the course.
The California native said that she never even went to any golf training class all her life, as she started playing out of sheer luck. She said that she never dreamed of becoming a prominent golfer, like most professional players do when they start their amateur career.
Martin shared that her father was behind her and he motivated her to become a professional golfer. She said that she did not even have a proper club and golf shoes, but her father provided her with all of these things.
“My dad actually sawed down some old clubs and made my golf shoes,” Martin said. “We went to Payless. My first pair of golf shoes had pink stars on them with Velcro straps".
"My dad drilled holes in the soles and glued spikes in them. He made my golf bag out of one of those tubes that you would mail a poster in. That was my first golf bag. So it started out that way”.
