Mo Williams promises to bring a lot of toughness to Utah Jazz – NBA Update
After being traded back to Utah Jazz, the same team which drafted him nine years ago, Mo Williams arrives back in the Salt Lake City with a promise to bring the same amount of toughness he has had since the start of his career.
"That's what makes me who I am, that toughness I have in me, that Jerry (Sloan) helped fine-tune," - Williams said
Williams was officially introduced as the newest member of the Jazz family today. He was part of a four team trade which sent Lamar Odom to the Los Angeles Clippers.
When he was drafted by the Jazz as a second round pick in 2003, Williams only had one suitcase in hand. Now returning back to Salt Lake City as a grown man, he is looking forward to meeting the challenge with his new team.
Over the years, Williams has established a reputation of a premier point guard, one who is lethal from the perimeter. In a young Utah team which punched above its weight last year, his inclusion can work wonders and General Manager
Kevin O’ Connor admitted to that fact;
"I think we've gotten better," O'Connor said. "When a player is capable of playing good basketball, and brings toughness, and aggressiveness and a work attitude every day, that's what you want."
Utah surprised everybody by finishing the short spanned season 36-30, a record which earned them the eighth and final seeding in the Western Conference and a berth in the playoffs. They were pitched up against the unstoppable San
Antonio Spurs in the first round, which ended in a clean sweep, but the signs shown by Jazz were encouraging.
Now by signing Williams, Jazz can enhance their performances from last season. He is a veteran one guard who has experience of playing in the post season back from his days in Cleveland Cavaliers and in the recent stint with the
Clippers.
Williams will be wearing the jersey 16, a number selected by his kids which equals the seven –the size of their family after his fifth child is born.
"It equals seven, but I wouldn't take No. 7 here because some famous guy wore that,"
With the likes of Al Harrington, Paul Millsap and Derrick Favors already in the team, the Jazz have certainly become more powerful after Williams’ inclusion. They are however still one superstar short and it remains to be seen
how far they will manage to proceed in the next NBA season.
